Veteran 5K and 11K Race Registration

Parking Info for the Field of Honor.

The Field of Honor is on the Field in Front of the Stoneham Central Middle School (101 Central St). Please be aware that school will be in session on weekdays. There is no parking along the entrance roadway between 7am-4pm on weekdays. If you are able, we ask that you park in some of the further lots where possible to allow those with mobility issues the parking closer to the Field. Also please be courteous to local businesses that are open near the school.

There is public parking in the lot next to Walgreens by the Tri-Community Greenway, as well as at the Pomeworth end of the entrance to the Middle School. On-street Parking is allowed on Central Street EXCEPT for the section between Elm and William Streets. There is also street parking on Pomeworth Street itself and on William between Pomeworth and Pleasant Streets, but not between Pomeworth and Main Streets.

  • Taps is played at the Field of Honor daily @ 5 pm - rain or shine

  • Food Donations for Veterans - Collected throughout the event, at the Field. Item List below & at Field

  • Worn Flag Drop Off - Worn and unserviceable flags for retirement will be collected throughout the event at the Field

  • Educational materials - short classes for Middle School students at the field, educating them on local Veterans, and flag protocols. Specific new events will also be added for public attendance.

  • Field Of Honor Flag Event

    November 6th -15th This 10 day event is open to the public 24/7. Feel free to walk through the sea of flags or bring a chair and sit and reflect. There will be over 500 flags flying this year . Click here to dedicate a flag. https://www.stonehamfieldofhonor.com/store

  • SSgt George Hall Pool Rededication Ceremony

    Friday, November 6th, 12:30pm. 4 North Border Road. Join the Stoneham War Memorial Committee, DCR, Boys and Girls Club, and State and Local officials, as we rededicate the newly renovated DCR pool, and the new location of the George Hall Monument, to our local hero and Medal of Honor recipient, Staff Sergeant George Hall.

  • Taps Played Nightly at 5pm

    November 6-14th. We have been fortunate to have musical volunteers from high school students, teachers, and adults from the community to have live taps played at the field of honor rain or shine. Visit the field at 5pm for a special moment.

  • Opening Ceremony FIeld of Honor

    Saturday, November 7th, 2:00pm at the field. Join us as we officially open the field, and read the dedication names for each flags flying at the field. Music and other events will follow immediately after the opening ceremony.

  • Patriotic Rock Painting Event

    DETAILS :  Saturday, November 7th, 3:00pm Join us in the big white tent at the field, to decorate some flat rocks! Finished products can go under the Veterans Thank you sign at Town Hall. If we have a great turn out, some will go in front of other town monuments. Expert artisans from Ceramica Paint Studio will be on hand to instruct and guide us. Event is sponsored by Stonehambank.

  • Marine Corps Birthday Cake Cutting

    Saturday, November 7th, 3:30pm . In honor of the Marine Corps birthday on November 10th, the Field of Honor will celebrate with a birthday cake. Please join us, after the Opening Ceremony, for a piece!

  • FREE Flag Football Clinic ( Boys & Girls ages 5-15)

    Sunday, November 8th, 2pm Free Flag foot ball clinic (arrive at 1:30pm). Event is being held at Pomeworth Field, run by the Patrick Pass Foundation Elite Girls HS Showcase team. Channel 4 will be there reporting. Please bring water (and cleats if possible). Open to both Boys and Girls ages 5-15. Space is limited . FREE. Registration Link

  • William Goss Citation Presentation- City of Malden

    Monday, November 9th, 3:30pm. The City of Malden, ( Bill’s hometown, in his youth), is honoring him this Veterans Week, for his service to our country, in the Vietnam War. Presentation will take place at the Field of Honor field. Please join us for this special event.

  • Veterans Breakfast

    Tuesday, November 10th, at 9:00am. Veterans Services Officer Jason Thompson will be hosting a veterans breakfast at the Stoneham Senior Center Sponsored by Life Care Center. All are welcome to arrive earlier for coffee. Space is limited so call ahead to register. 781-363-9970

  • Flag Scavenger Hunt 2026

    Tuesday, November 10th at 3:30 pm for a fun scavenger hunt to celebrate the American Flag and the USA’s 250th Anniversary! Special Guest is Monty Stoneham Police’s new support K-9! Free. Patch included. Registration link

  • Veterans Day Ceremony

    Veterans Day - November 11th, 10:30am Ceremony at Town Hall (inside) . Thank you pins and cards will be given out to Veterans in attendance, from the Town of Stoneham. Pizza and drinks will be served to Veterans following the ceremony.

    November 11th, 11:30am The Veterans Day 5K and 11K Race starts directly after the Veterans Day Ceremony at 11:30am in front of Town Hall Central Street. Come and cheer on the participants! TO REGISTER or for more information, see the race website.

  • Veterans Photo Project

    The Veterans Committee is working to add photos of local veterans to our slide show , that we show yearly on Veterans Day at the Town Hall ceremony. Must either be a current resident or previously lived in Stoneham. Honoree can be either living or deceased. Send your photo(s), with name (and rank if known) to stonehamveterans@gmail.com

  • William F Buckley Ceremony

    Wednesday, November 11th, 11:45am William F Buckley monument ceremony - to take place directly after the Town Hall ceremony 11/11 completes , 10 minutes in duration. Very moving ceremony of a highly decorated local legend. Located in the Square in front of Butcher shop. Ceremony is performed by fellow unit members of the 54th Special Forces group.

  • State Police Horses Visit

    • Weds, November 11th 10am-2pm. Two State Police officers and their horses will be visiting us at Town Hall for the Races and at the Field of Honor after the Race kicks off, to welcome visitors.

  • Flag Retirement Patch Program

    Thursday, November 12th at 3:30pm at the field Learn from local Veterans, basic flag etiquette, how to fold a flag, and how take part in a flag retirement ceremony. Patch included. Flag retirement ceremony will follow immediately afterward. FREE. Registration Link

  • Flag Retirement Ceremony

    Thursday, November 12th at 4:00pm at the Middle School Field. VFW Post #620 will be performing a Flag Retirement Ceremony. We will be collecting worn and used flags all week at the Field of Honor Information booth. Join us for this special ceremony.

  • State Police K-9 Demo

    Friday, November 13th, 4:00pm at the Field. Watch a Massachusetts State Police Officer, as he demonstrates the skills his K-9 dog performs, for police work. Learn about how to become a K-9 police officer. No registration required.

  • Closing Ceremony - Field of Honor

    Sunday, November 15th, 12:00pm Join us for the close of this wonderful 10- day event. We will read the names dedicated on each flag, during this ceremony. We thank each and every sponsor, volunteer and participating flag sponsor, for making this event so special.
